Quest for Peace
Quest for Peace has been working since 1983 to build a policy of peace and friendship between the people of Nicaragua and the United States. We have a multi-faceted program that emphasizes the following areas:
CYD Lunch
Humanitarian Aid: We provide millions of dollars in material aid each year to community-based projects in Nicaragua, including health clinics, homes for the elderly, and infant feeding centers.
Our annual Clean Your Desk Campaign delivers 60 tons of school supplies to rural schools each year. We have also been working with the Institute of John XXIII to expand community development initiatives since 1984.
Community Development: With our partners the Institute of John XXIII, we launched a integral development initiative following hurricane Mitch, Networks of Hope. At the end of this five year project hundreds of homes had been constructed, community loan funds established, and each ofthe 23 communities involved incorporated its own community development association. We are now working in 15 new communities through the Program of Human Development to recreate this effort.
Policy and Advocacy: We also work to change the policies of the United States government and international financial institutions such as the World Bank and IMF. Key areas of advocacy include challenging water privatization, promoting sustainable agriculture and fair trade, and defending labor rights. Quest staff coordinate the Alliance for Responsible Trade and also co-coordinate the Stop CAFTA coalition.
